[20527] TURKEY - MALTA …1920 BRITISH LEVANT REGISTERED to TURKISH POW … 1920 (Jan 19) Envelope endorsed in Arabic along top & registered to Soudy Bey, Wardella Camp bearing GB GV 2d & 2˝d tied British A.P.O. /Constantinople cds & with blank R 97 label with some foxing modified in ink to 797 & tied British A.P.O. /Constantinople & with violet unframed Passed Censor applied in Malta with on reverse senders details in Arabic script & 20mm single ring Malta (30 Jan) arrival thimble cds. ................................................................................................. After the armistice Britain occupied parts of the former Ottoman Empire & in order to maintain stability 144 Turks were in stages deported & interned at Malta as Political Prisoners with the last of them being released during the latter part of October 1921...mail is not common

Censor 1076 was one of a block of 12 between 1074 -1085 that was issued & used in Malta from 19 Oct - 17 Nov 1914

[19565] MALTA - CYPRUS …CENSORSHIP DURING CIVIL DISTURBANCES 1931-36 1933 (Mar 16) Picture postcard entitled "Malta - Entrance M' Xetto Harbour" to Larnaca bearing Malta GV 1˝d tied Valletta cds with black circular Postal Censor /G.R. /Cyprus hand stamp ................ British Colonial Rule, Hardships, Poverty & the World Economic Crisis resulted in Civil Disturbances commencing in Nicosia 20 October 1931 & spreading to Rural areas with Government properties being damaged, burnt & looted. These were subdued within a few days & Defence of Cyprus Regulations (1931) were imposed with Postal Censorship lasting until 1936. These regulations were never officially lifted so censorship remained in force until the end of WW2

[19305] JAPAN…WW1 NAVAL FORCES In MEDITERREANEAN... . 1917 (Apr ) coloured stampless postcard entitled "Cairo-Native village near the Nil" to Captain Fujimori, War Ship Fuso, 1st Fleet from sailor Suzuki aboard Japanese Destroyer "Katsura", 10th Flotilla, 2nd Special Fleet, Port Said cancelled on arrival Yokohama (12 May) & with orange framed Gunji Yubin (Military Mail) + Ken-etsuzumi (Censored) & with interesting comment "This voyage with 4000 Japanese has passed peacefully and we now have an opportunity to show our work ................................................................................................. The 2nd Special Fleet ordered 7 February 1917 & consisted of Cruiser HIJMS "Akashi" plus 10th & 11th Destroyer Fleets each with 4 Battleships was assembled & left Singapore on 11 March reaching Port Said on 9 April & arriving Malta 13 April from where it was based. The flotilla was mainly employed on escort duties throughout the Mediterreanean & mail is understandably rare.

[18337] MALTA...1911 ROYAL VISIT by H.I.J.M.S. "KURAMA" for CORONATION of KING GEORGE V.. 1911 (Sep 16) coloured picture post card of Valletta to girlfriend at Fukushima from Japanese seaman Okazaki Naozo aboard H.I. J.M.S. "Kurama" endorsed "In Squadron to England - On Voyage, Valletta 16th September" sent in Warship closed bag & bearing 1˝ sen tied Tsuruga (5 Oct) cds & with red crayon manuscript "Warship Mail" & with Fukushima (7 Oct) arrival cds................. The voyage commenced on 1 April 1911 & travelled via various ports carrying Prince & Princess Higashi Fushima (Horihito), Admiral Togo & General Nogi amongst others for the occassion of the Coronation of King George V that took place on 22 June. H.I.J.M.S. "Kurama" left Southampton on 30 June for the return journey finally arriving Japan 19 November. The vessel arrived Malta 10 Sep & left for Egypt on 19 Sep.....Japanese warship mail from this prestigious event is important & very rare.
