(25 May) transits & Darmstadt 1 (28 May) arrival cds. .............................................................................................. Neither states of the Rehavia cds are recorded by Proud with cancellation being similar to Proud D1 State 2 but code C with only SW of JSM that is reversed & the M inverted. Additionally The transit Rehavia BO again code C shows JSM totally reversed & inverted.... I don't normally care about minor varieties but these are striking.

No 2 (28 Sep) maritime ligne & with blue triangular T deleted in pencil & on reverse partial Bagnasco (10 Oct) square circle arrival ........................................ 1896 May 20 A decree unites the Territory of Obock, the protectorates of on Tadjoura, Gobaad and Ghoubbet el Kharab and the Issas country as far as the border with British Somaliland into a single colony under the direct authority of the Minister of France in Ethiopia, the French Somali Coast and Dependencies & Djibouti becomes the capital.During the Year Governor Lagarde recommends that every man in the Djibouti garrison be armed with two rifles and a thousand cartridges. Sniper fire outside the town is almost constant during the night.

Later in Dec 1940 the Division joined the allied thrust into Libya & capturing Bardia on 4 Jan 41 & later Tobruck on the 22nd...Railhead P.O. /R.M.1 commenced life on 22 Apr 1940 use prior to 17 Mar 41 is not recorded

East Surrey Regt. sailed for Shanghai Oct 38 & later in Aug 40 were sent to Singapore, in Feb 41 they were sent to Northern Malaya under 11th Indian Div & fought their way south to Singapore losing over a third of their strenght only to be interned as POW's shortly afterwards upon the surrender to the Japanese
