"PHOEBE' + in a different shade F.M.O. HAIFA & circular Osterreichische Zensurstelle/3/Z.1 partly overlaid by plain brown resealing label of the Allied occupation forces. .............................................................................................. The State of Israel was proclaimed on the 14 May 1948 & the following day was invaded by Arab troops from Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Trans-Jordan & Syria. All invaders were repulsed but war continued until 7 Jan 1949 when a cease fire was proclaimed leaving a very uneasy truce..

The State of Israel was proclaimed on the 14 May 1948 & the following day was invaded by Arab troops from Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Trans-Jordan & Syria. All invaders were repulsed but war continued until 7 Jan 1949 when a cease fire was proclaimed leaving a very uneasy truce.. FPO 731 is recorded by Proud used Haifa 15 Jan 1945 to 6 May 1948 this extends that use by over 3 weeks

Very unusual being allowed to pass without tax despite being registered. As at 2000 the CCSG record 18 WS 1 wax seal censors although more have certainly survived.

Early in WW1 as part of the German fleet menacing allied shipping in the South Atlantic that on 1 Nov 1914 took part in the defeat of the British Naval force at the battle of Coronel where the British lost HMS Good Hope & Monmouth together with 1500+ sailors.

Leipzig as part of te East Asian Squdadron looking after German interests in the area. ................................................................................................ Later on 1 Nov 1914 SMS Leipzig took part in the defeat of the British Naval force at the battle of Coronel where the British lost HMS Good Hope & Monmouth together with 1500+ sailors however on the 8 Dec at the Battle of Falkland Islands she was chased down by HMS Glasgow who opened fire, got hit by Leipzig & withdrew leaving HMS Cornwall & Kent to batter her remorsely until Capt. Haun scuttled his ship

[20397] GREAT BRITAIN …WW1 HMS KENT BATTLE of FALKLANDS… 1915 Coloured picture postcard showing Valparaiso, Government Building to London bearing GB GV ˝d tied Mute oval rugby style cancel & with black circular Passed /HMS Kent /Censor. ................................................................................................ After the Naval battle of Falklands the Dresden escaped & evaded the searching British ships for months but was spotted by HMS Kent off the Chilian coast on 8 March, Kent intercepted a message from Dresden calling for a collier to meet at Juan Fernandez island, Kent summoned HMS Glasgow & they entered Cumberland Bay on 14 March. Dresden pointed her guns at the British vessels & Glasgow opened fire, the crew of Dresden scuttled her. HMS Kent apparently called at Valparaiso to put injured & wounded ashore on the 15 March.

[19667] GREECE-GB…BRITISH NAVAL FORCES during GREEK CIVIL WAR... 1946 (Oct 7) Plain stampless envelope to Leominster cancelled FPO 782 (9 Oct)cds located in Athens at this date & with violet oval Head of British Naval Mission /7 - Oct 1946 /Greece hand stamp .................................................................................................The 2nd of the Greek civil wars at the termination of WW2 commenced in May 1946 when Communist followers abstained from voting in February & a Royalist majority was returned. The Communist guerrilla's who had been underground after the agreement of February 1945 at the end of the first hostilities surfaced & reopened warfare that eventually was put down in November 1949.
