1911 (Jun 1) Envelope together with long letter to girlfriend at Fukushima from Japanese seaman Okazaki Naozo aboard H.I. J.M.S. “Kurama” headed “In Gibraltar Harbour 4th June” sent in Warship closed bag with red ink manuscript “From the Imperial Japanese Ship Kurama for the Post Office Tsuruga, Japan” & bearing 3 sen tied Tsuruga (24 Jun) transit cds & Fukushima

The voyage commenced on 1 April 1911 & travelled via various ports carrying Prince & Princess Higashi Fushima (Horihito), Admiral Togo & General Nogi amongst others for the occassion of the Coronation of King George V that took place on 22 June. H.I.J.M.S. “Kurama” arrived Gibraltar 1 June & left for Dover on 5 June a short stay of 5 days only. After the celebrations “Kurama” left Southampton on 30 June for the return journey finally arriving Japan 19 November……Japanese warship mail from this prestigious event is important & very rare.
