In the spring of 1914 relations between the USA & Mexico were strained & the arrest of seamen from USS Dolphin & later another from USS Minnesota with no apology plus a shipment of arms from Germany for Mexican forces on it’s way to Vera Cruz Admiral F.F. Fletcher lande US Marines & Sailors on 21 April, to take control of Customs House & prevent delivery leading to occupation of the city. On 30 April General Funston’s soldiers arrived to take over control of all onshore duties. The occupation ended 23 November after just 7 months
