Box 19 Kiambu Down prison (this was a maximun security camp) from Manyani Special Detention camp cancelled Manyani Camp (29 Mar) with alongside violet framed Postal Frank /H.M. Prison /Manyani (Kenya) & unframed Censored handstamps.

Rare camp to camp mail between native prisoners during the Mau Mau rebellion that first kindled itself in Aug 1952 & by Oct troops from Britain had been flown in & a State of Emergency was declared on the 20th lasting until December 1959 by which time 10,000 Mau Mau members were dead & 80,000 suspects detained. Problems & sporadic attacks continued even after Kenya was granted independence mainly instigated by the Meru tribe people
