1921 (Jan 7) Plain stampless envelope marked O.A.S. to Aberdeen countersigned bottom left by Lieut. A.S. Esson who was with the Inland Water Transport office & with violet 24mm circular M 1264 & cancelled on reverse BASRAH / 7 Jan 21 / 7th DES cds….The San Remo conference of April 1920 granted Britain a Mandate over Mesopotamia (Iraq) leading in May to mass meetings & demonstations against British rule that quickly led to open armed revolt in June, this was mostly suppressed by British Indian forces in late October yet problems continued until 1922 mostly by Sunni & Shai religious fanatical groups but also others who wanted the British out.
