A very large island in the Southern hemisphere with a population of 25 million people, mostly living in the major coastal cities. In the beginning Australia was divided into 6 separate states all issuing their own stamps valid for use until 31 December 1912.

On the first day of 1901 the Commonwealth of Australia was born joining the UPU on 1 October, 1907.

Australia’s first stamp depicting a kangaroo was unveiled on January 2, 1913.

Australian Military, Naval Forces and Air force served in the Boer War, Boxer War, WW1, WW2, Korean & Viet Nam wars and had / have a presence in modern day Iraq & Afghanistan.

Like most countries, the Australian Postal Service issues a number of commemorative stamps throughout the year. Stamp collectors prize Australian postage stamps for good colour and detail.
