Maine Volunteers stating that he applied for a certificate to account for his absence 28 May – 10 June 1865 & that Examination finds him suffering from Fever & will not be able to report for 20 days signed 8 June at Ellsworth ME & bearing pair US Inter Rev Certificate 5c pen cancelled, together with State of Maine certificate of genuineness with green impressed seal of the Supreme Judicial Court bearing US Inter Rev 2c & US Inter Rev Express 2c pen cancelled…..A very unusual document issued to a soldier.
