Houison Crauford 91st Foot (Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) bearing C.O.G.H. seated Hope 6d tied Cape Town/Cape Colony (7 Oct) cds & with manuscript No 30 Rec’d Oct 29th with on reverse Cramond (13 Oct) & superb scarce Edinburgh & Carstairs Sorting Tender (29 Oct) transit cds.

On 11 Jan 1879 British troops invaded & after a series of battles a Peace Treaty was signed 1 Sep with Zululand being annexed by the British 1 Jan 1887 & later to Natal on 1 Dec 1887. Lieut Houison Crauford later went on to serve in the Chinese Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.) during the Boxer war
