Description

1891(Dec 29) India 2a6p Postal Stationary envelope very badly opened along the top with chunks missing yet all postal markings are present & readable. Lieut Stewart & his Survey party had been murdered in Feb 1889 & a Punative Exped. Had dealt with this by 30 April 1890 & the Chin FPO was closed in July 1890. However it was realised later that a further expedition was necessary to undermine & subdue the solidarity of the tribes resulting in a further exped. leaving in 2 columns one on the Burma side under General Symonds leaving on 15 Nov 90 & due to no Field Post facility until much later using the civil 20mm thimble village cancel of Kalemyo (29 Dec) that is supported by Rangoon /W (9 Jan 92) transit with on reverse Bombay (16 Jan), Sea Post Office (16 Jan) transit & Bern, Switzerland (31 Jan) arrival cds..
