At the battle of Liao-yang on 23rd August the Japanese 1st, 2nd & 4th Armies were deployed on the Pei-kou, the valley of Tang-ho, Wang -pao-tai, Chang-Chai-pu-tzu, Sha-ho & Tun-tai. The Russians began to retreat of the 3rd September & by the 5th the battle was won however from the 26th August to 55th September the Japanese 4th Army sustained 5537 killed & 5300 wounded from a force of 18063, Russian sources claim only 2474 killed & 14301 wounded with 1137 taken POW or unaccounted for.
