1914 (May 19) Stampless envelope to Naples from Italian soldier cancelled Sokna/Fezzan-Tripolitania with alongside Comando Di Tappa /Socne unit hand stamp & on reverse further strike sealing the envelope & with faint arrival Naples (27 Jul) arrival cds…………At the end of the Italo-Turkish War although Tripoli & Cyrenaicia were annexed by Italy they could not control the Arabs in the Fezzan. In early 1913 the Maini column spent 18 months in the desert fighting the Arabs & finally conquerting them in August 1914. However the Italian occupation of the Fezzan was short lived. The demands of man power on the outbreak of World War 1 & the Turkish sponsored Senussi uprising forced the Italians to leave the Fezzan for the coast.
