1915(Jul 11) Stampless coloured PPC of R.M.S. “Alaunia” to Perth, Scotland, the writer being delighted that & states “Have got on boat & got a splendid Berth”. R.M.S Alaunia sailed from Devonport for Dardanelles/Gallipoli on 10 July with reinforcements for the campaign stopping at Plymouth where the card was posted through the Naval system with 2 line RECEIVED FROM H.M.SHIP/NO CHARGE TO BE RAISED & datelined Left Plymouth 11 July 1915 & showing Plymouth wavy lined machine cancel of the civil postal system….A very unusual item using the Naval system to circumvent postal charges while still in home waters
