After the Naval battle of Falklands the Dresden escaped & evaded the searching British ships for months but was spotted by HMS Kent off the Chilian coast on 8 March, Kent intercepted a message from Dresden calling for a collier to meet at Juan Fernandez island, Kent summoned HMS Glasgow & they entered Cumberland Bay on 14 March. Dresden pointed her guns at the British vessels & Glasgow opened fire, the crew of Dresden scuttled her. HMS Kent apparently called at Valparaiso to put injured & wounded ashore on the 15 March.
