Description
1916 (Feb 4) Envelope originating in London & with red cachet of BRITISH AMBULANCE / B R / O S Bearing GV 1d tied London wavy line machine datestamp (9 Feb) & addressed to Wm. B. Dyne, Friends Ambulance Unit, Army P.O. S.10, B.E.F., Inghilterra (very confusing Inghilterra is Italian for England, APO S. 10 was located Dunkirk) & on reverse FIRST BRITISH AMBULANCE / UNIT FOR ITALY with in centre 123 PALL MALL/LONDON S.W. cachet & below dated 9 Feb Rec’d…..A strange & confusing item & I question if it ever even left London..Neither the British RX nor a Friends Ambulance Unit were in Italy before Sept 1917 & I suggest this was an early communication during preparations to send RX & Friends Ambulance units to Italy..
