Description

1917(Feb 10) PPC showing flowers to young lady at Southsea bearing GB GV ½d tied London / 253 cds & with red framed CENSORED of HMS Lancaster (Gould 5A130). When WW1 broke out HMS Lancaster was initially assigned to the Grand Fleet until transferred in 1916 to the Pacific & becoming Flag ship Eastern Squadron in 1918 apparently arriving Port Stanley 25 Dec 1916 & leaving for Punta Arenas 9 Feb 1917. this card would have been written during this period & carried by another vessel to London.
