Portugal was neutral until Germany on 9 Mar 16 & Austro-Hungary on 15 March declared war due to the Portuguese seizing 63 ships that had been interned under the neutrality act in Portuuguese ports since war commenced. Subsequently Portugal sent 2 Infantry Divisions to the Western Front on 3 Feb 1917.
