1918 (May 25) Ceylon 5c Stationary envelope with additional adhesives removed to Lieutenant John Still, Prisoner of War, Afion Kara Hissar, Turkey, care of the POW bureau Geneva, Switzerland cancelled Vavuniya cds & with plain white re-sealing label tied by violet unframed OPENED BY THE CENSOR & with on face circular PASSED COLOMBO CENSOR handstamps….John Still emigrated to Ceylon in 1897 working as a tea planter, volunteered & enlisted in 6th Battalion, East Yorks Regt. went to Gallipoli & was captured 9 Aug 1915 remaining a POW of Turkey until the end of the war. After returning to Ceylon he later wrote a book “A Prisoner in Turkey” & became President of Ceylon Planters Assoc.
