By autumn 1918 the Italians were at Sarona (Jaffa)…. An Italian detachment of 500 was formed in Naples on 1 May 1917 & embarked 6 May reaching Port Said, Egypt on 10th where a Base was formed to serve the troops moving forward who reached Rafa, Palestine between 13th – 15th June 1917
