British Colonial Rule, Hardships, Poverty & the World Economic Crisis resulted in Civil Disturbances commencing in Nicosia 20 October 1931 & spreading to Rural areas with Government properties being damaged, burnt & looted. These were subdued within a few days & Defence of Cyprus Regulations (1931) were imposed with Postal Censorship lasting until 1936. These regulations were never officially lifted so censorship remained in force until the end of WW2
