1935 (Dec 24) Spencer & Company (India) Ltd., London printed envelope by airmail to company office at Karachi bearing GV Photogravure pair 3d tied London F.S./Air Mail machine date stamp & with manuscript “Salvaged from Imperial Airways Sea Plane “City of Khartoum ” – crashed off Alexandria in the Mediterranean on 1.1.1936- Twelve of the thirteen aboard were drowned” This statement is not strictly correct & with on back indistinct India ??? (11 Jan 1936) arrival cds ……………… Airmails for the Middle East & Eastwards to Australia leaving London on 28 December were transferred to Imperial Airways City of Khartoum at Brindisi. On the approach to Alexandria on 31 December the flying boat ran out of fuel and crashed. The Captain plus 2 passengers survived with 3 crew & 9 passengers who did not.
