1936 (Nov 20) The Colonial Photo stores, Alexandria prinnted envelope Lieut. D.B. Gaye, 2nd Bn. Dorset Regt., Jerusalem & forwarded to Sturminster Newton, Dorset bearing King Faud 3m + 4m + 13m tied Alexandria cds & with Field Post Office 23 (24 Nov) cds located at Affule between 11 Oct – 7 Dec 1936 & with on reverse Field Post Office 20 (28 Nov) transit cds …………………………………………. A full scale uprising in April 1936 by Palestinian Arabs against British colonial rule in mandated territory resulted in Britain sending more troops and an Army Postal unit via H.M.T “Dorsetshire” where FPO 12 opened on board and a further 10 FPO’s between numbers 15 – 26 on arrival the first opening on 1 October with the last closing on 10 January 1937 after problems had subsided by the end of 1936 only to reoccur again in September 1937.
