1936 (Sep 19) Plain envelope with part flap gone & with letter on Bibby Line, H.M.T. Dorsetshire printed paper to Goudhurst, Kent bearing combination GB GV Photogravure 1d+ EDV111 ½d & 1½d tied Field Post Office 12 cds located aboard H.M.T. Dorsetshire & which opened for 2 hours daily from 19 to 22 September, the letter describing the service & saying to keep the letter………………Proud does not record any mail …………………………………………………………………..
A full scale uprising in April 1936 by Palestinian Arabs against British colonial rule in mandated territory resulted in Britain sending more troops and an Army Postal unit via H.M.T “Dorsetshire” where FPO 12 opened on board and a further 10 FPO’s between numbers 15 – 26 on arrival the first opening on 1 October with the last closing on 10 January 1937 after problems had subsided by the end of 1936 only to reoccur again in September 1937.
