1939 (Dec 6) Plain envelope bearing GB GV1 definitive 1½d tied Faversham datestamp from Mrs Borner to Lieut. R.S. Borner R.N.V.R. c/o Naval Officer in Charge, Haifa, Palestine this deleted & with Haifa (22 Dec) cds & sent Admiralty, Whitehall, London SW1, then sent c/o British Consul, Patras, Greece deleted in red ink & marked Not Here, Try Candia, Crete with on reverse Patras (1 Dec 40) transit ………. A very interesting item as Borner a couple months later was in France on a covert operation ordered by Churchill & planted 1700 mines in the river Seine disrupting the Germans water traffic, this cover proves by it’s movements that Borner was no ordinary sailor, probably possessing some special skills.
