1941 (Aug 25) Plain envelope to Flight Lieut. Kenneth Corbould, 203 Sqdn. RAF HQ, No 1 Depot, Uxbridge bearing GB GVI 1d & ½d tied Southport machine cancel & with crossed through in orange crayon & a mealy of re-directional & Instructional markings including NOT CALLED FOR / RETURN TO SENDER, UNDELIVERED FOR REASON STATED / RETURN TO SENDER & on reverse ARMY / 6 FEB 42 / POST OFFICE red framed 13 FEB 1942 DESPATCHED with manuscript GPO, London G machine cancel (16 Feb), then seems to have gone back to Military with violet circular HOME DEPOT / 11 MCH 42 / A.P.O & another red framed 16 MAR 1942 DESPATCHED & finally oval violet MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND (NAT)IONAL SERVICE / RECEIVED / 27 MAR 1942 .9. / Cannot fully read bottom line………..A very odd Return to Sender item perhaps to do with location & activies of 203 Sqdn RAF who moved to Egypt & Palestine theatre in Apr 1941 conducting patrols over the Eastern Med before taking part in the Syrian campaign (8 Jun – 14 Jul 41) & for part of that were located at the remote LG. 101 which was Landing Ground 101 a concrete strip in the desert covered in sand with no buildings or real facilities except tents, records do not show when 203 Sqdn left LG. 101 but the Sqdn was deployed to Santa Cruz, India on 15 Nov 1943 which leaves a 29 month hole…
