Circa 1942-3 Beautifully coloured Communication Officielle du Governement des Etats-Unis au sujet de Madagascar (135 x 215mm) with above US Winged Eagle with drop down flag over chest carrying Holly & Arrows in each foot dropped over France with message to the People of France explaining that the invasion & occupation of Madagascar is only for the duration of the war & will be returned to France after Victory.

After the Japanese attacked Ceylon in April 1942 the British felt Madagascar, part of Vichy France could be a base from which the Japanese could cut Allied shipping & supply routes around the Cape of Good Hope. Operation “Ironclad” launched on 5 May with first landing taking place at Diago Suarez & by October the island was secured with the French capitulating 6 Nov 42 it was felt the people of France should have their minds put to rest hense the Air Drops
