Interesting item from the short lived Task Force 6814 that was hastily thrown together by the US Army after 7 December 1941. It travelled to Australia in a large convoy leaving New York 23 Jan 42 with training taking place during transit to their still unknown destination arriving Melbourne 27 Feb 42 with the troops being unloaded and dispersed to five major areas until departing Melbourne for Noumea 6 Mar 1942 arriving 12 Mar. Task Force 6814 was reassigned as the Americal Division a combination of the words American and Caledonia effective 27 May 1942.
