In September 1940 Jews & Arabs living in British Mandated Palestine were allowed to form separate companies known as Palestine Independent companies & these were attached to the Royal East Kent Regt. (The Buffs). Later in 1942 these formed 3 separate Battalions & became the Palestine Regiment with 2800 volunteers prior to these forming the core of what was to become the Jewish Brigades in late 1944. I was unaware that any individuals of the Palestine Regt. served in Cyprus.
