WW2 circa 1942-43 unused Official Photographic postcard size of a Free Indian Legion soldier showing full length uniform jacket & insignia….India had long wanted independence from Britain & when in 1941 Subhash Chandra Bose escaped house arrest, travelled through Afghanistan to Moscow & then on to Berlin where he had a meeting with Himmler that led to a meeting with Hitler where it was agreed Bose could set up a Free India Government (F.I.G.) he commenced by broadcasting Anti British propaganda & started recruiting volunteers. The German success’s in North Africa led to the capture of many British Indian soldiers & Bose took advantage of this opportunity & recruited a total of 3500 from POW’s & volunteers from other sources into the Free Indian Legion (F.I.L.) to fight alongside the German army………Mail and or other materials associated with the F.I.L. is very elusive…
