1943 (Aug 10) Airmail envelope to Berne bearing Italy 50c tied Casteggio /Pavia cds & with black unframed Servizio Sospeso that has later been deleted in blue crayon and the mail allowed to proceed & with German Ab roller censor applied at Munich………………………………….
September 1943 was the month of the Italian Armistice following secret negotiations with the allies, it also marked the allied continued consolidation after the invasion of Sicily. Rome was still occupied by the Germans with Mussolini & the R.S.I active in Northern Italy. These events combined to affect the flow of mail but this item was later allowed to pass after deletion of the Service Suspended mark.
