After the Italian Armistice of 8 Sept 1943 POW & Civil Internees were allowed to send mail to Italy by Air on payment of Shs. 1/30. some correspondence is known sent by Air prior to this date but it did require Special Permission….Ref Henning East Africa WW2 page 82
