1943 (Jul 9 & 16) Pair of airmail envelopes endorsed “Clipper” to Mr. Nisse Svensson, M/S Rosemont, c/o Postmaster New York bearing Transport 6c tied New York N.Y. / High Bridge Station or Morris Heights Station slogans each with transparent Examined By 6704 or 8371 tapes & each with violet or black unframed This Communication /referred to District Post /Censor by U.S. Naval /Authorities hand stamp (Mayo S7.2.3.) of the Travelling censorship……… Mayo only records this marking in black & although his book was produced in 1980 it still remains the best & most reliable source of US WW2 Civil censorship markings although no doubt new finds have been made since publication.
