1944 Japanese printed military stationary card with Anchor & Star to Sadanosuke Yoshida, Mabuchi-muru, Gamoo-gun, shiga- ken, Japan from Kyu’ichi Kawabe, U-224 Unit, c/o Sasebo P.O., Tanaka Company, Maizuru No 1 Special Marine Corps, Nicobar Islands with violet framed Ken’etsuzumi (Censored) with orange oval chop od Sato the censoring officer…The Nicobar Islands situated in the Bay ofBengal were strategically important flanking & controlling the approaches to Burma. On 12 March 1942 when it became evident that Japanese forces would take Rangoon the resident garrison of British Indian Ghurka’s were ordered to withdraw from Nicobar to the Arakan penisular thus allowing the Japanese occupation for rest of the war.
