1944(Jan 18) Envelope to JX 453327 N. J. Randall, HMS Quilliam, c/o GPO London bearing GB GVI 1½d tied Weymouth machine cancel & with multiple pencil, ink or crayon annotations with finally on 5 Nov after almost 10 months 4 line large size TO BE RETURNED TO SENDER / BY ORDER OF THE ADMIRALTY / IN VIEW OF TIME ELAPSED /SINCE LETTER WAS WRITTEN……………….HMS Quilliam a destroyer launched 29 Nov 1941 spent Jan- Feb 1944 en-route to Trincomalee, Ceylon prior to joining the Eastern Fleet in March & although returning to Trincomalee periodically was involved, with other vessels, in Screening, Escort, Convoy defence & general Indian Ocean patrols including various Task forces against the Japanese before returning to Trincomalee on 21st Oct & was transferred to British Pacific Fleet at Trincomalee upon the formation on 22 Nov 1944.
