1944 (Aug 8) Plain envelope together with letter that looks to be written in Welsh or Gaelic to D//JX 552062 W.M. Griffiths O/Sea, Class 66RI M.T. Division, H.M.S. “VALKYRIE”, Douglas, I.O.M. bearing GVI 2½d tied Rugby datestamp… H.M.S. Valkyrie was a Shore Establishment (Stone Frigate) located Douglas & was the R.N. No 1 Radar training school. Commissioned in Oct 1941 & decommissioned the end of 1946 it worked with RAF Andreas (also located I.O.M.) who supplied aircraft for simulated attacks. In Sep 1943 it was also used to train signal & wireless telegraphy ratings for the “D” landings with this element being decommissioned in Mar 1944..
