1944 (Apr 8) Cable & Wireless printed envelope to J.R. Taylor, Leicester from husband Gnr. Taylor with 17th Div. together with telegram stating “Fit and well letter following best love to all”………………………… ……………………………………………………….
Other correspondence & historic facts prove that Gnr Taylor served with 129th Fld Regt. R.A., 17th Indian Division in the battles of Imphal lasting from 7 Mar – 18 Jul with the previous owner of this item claiming the Cable was sent on 30 Mar 1944 from Milestone 83 on the Tiddim – Imphal road after the Japanese had claimed on Radio Tokyo that the 17th Indian Div had been surrounded & destroyed. This prompted the British to make Emergency facilities available for members of the Division to send telegrams home to next of kin ………………………Historically important
