1944 (Aug 11) Plain envelope by airmail to Rome bearing Eire 6d & 2d tied Corcaigh slogan date stamp & double censored with black on pink bi-lingual S.P.1 Opened By Censor tied red unframed “No Air Mail Service /By This Route at Present” hand stamp with label overlaid by + PC90 multiple Crowns /Opened By Examiner /1881 label …….. A scarce double censored item with Instructional mark…Rome was taken by Allied forces on 4 June 1944 & as German forces were still active in Northern Italy & fighting continued in France with Paris not being liberated until later in August there were no Air Mail facilities for civilians from nuetral Ireland at this time
