Description
1947(Sep 1) Air Letter marked Active Service to Shoreham by Sea, Sussex from Lt. Col. H. G. Crowhurst giving his new address of HQ Burma Command, Mingaladon Cantt. Post Office, bearing Burma GVI 1½ a tied Mingaladon Cantonment (2 Sep)cds. Besides his complaints about mosquitoes, roaming Dacoits (Rebels) & the very tricky situation due to the 7 pm – 5 am Curfew in Rangoon due to the assassination of Burmese Ministers who’s bodies are on public show. He mentions his area of operation extends as far as Mandalay (400 miles north) through Dacoit infested territory but he does get an armoured car escort & questions if the war has finished… Excellent content of first hand events. Burma gained Independance 4 Jan 1948.
