In May 1977 Kampuchean forces under Khmer Rouge attack VN island of Phu Quoc. Despite the public display of harmony great tension existed due to Kampuchea fearing VN expansion & launch a major attack on 30 April 1978 against VN. China tries to mediate but on 25 December 1978, Vietnam launched a full-scale invasion of Kampuchea and over ran the Khmer Rouge forces within 2 weeks. On 8 Jan 79 the Peoples Republic of Kampuchea was formed & Viet Nam subsequently occupied the country for the next 10 years until the last VN troops withdrew 26 Sep 1989. Mail throughout this period is not easily found.
