Description

1979 (Sep 14) British Forces Mail, By Air Mail Air Letter printed Aerogramme to Policeman, c/o Chiswick Police Station, London bearing Machin 8p tied British Forces Post Office Hong Kong / 1 cds (19 Sep) from PO 37672D, Marine Salmon, 9 Tp. M Coy, 42 Commando R.M., BFPO 1 with very interesting & enlightening content……… Currently in Observation post on top of Ta Kwu Ling police station about 70 metres from the Chinese border. My Unit is here for 2 months to stop illegal immigrants entering H.K…Been here for 2 weeks now observing by day with patrols going out if the wire is crossed & with ambush patrols along the fence at night. Chinese we catch are mostly in their late teens or early twenties, the youngest have been two boys 8 & 9 years old who had walked over a thousand miles in two weeks to cross a small river 20 feet wide but up to 15 metres deep, a lot cannot swim and end up as floaters. Chinese guards are unfriendly when they catch someone attempting to cross they beat them & set the dogs on them whether they are male or female or young or old.
