1923 (Sep 19) printed envelope with trim along top to Grenoble bearing on reverse block x 20 Hermes head EB overprints (Yvert 276 & Karamitsos 3622) tied by a series of Kepkypa cds & with framed VERIFICATO PER CENSURA of the Italians & Grenoble ( 22 Sep) arrival cds ……….

.On 27 August 1923 General Tellini leading a commission to resolve a border dispute between Greece & Albania was murdered together with some staff members whilst on Greek soil. In response Mussolini quickly issued (29 Aug) an onerous ultimation to the Greeks who’s reply on 30 Aug did not fully meet his demands so the following day 31 Aug an Italian Naval squadron was ordered to bombard Corfu, land troops who arrested the Prefect plus others and occupied the island, an Italian P.O. was briefly opened. In the meantime the Greeks scrambled to meet the Italian dictators demands & on 27 Sep the Italian flag was lowered & Italian troops left Corfu after less than one month of occupation……….
