SHIP /PASSED BY CENSOR handstamp………….M.V. Kanimbla built for Mcilwraith McEachern operated a passenger service between Cairns & Freemantle from 1934. HMAS Kanimbla was requisitioned on 5 Sep 39 & converted to an Armed Merchant Cruiser & commissioned 6 Oct 39. Under Commander Frank Getting RAN she departed Sydney for Hong Kong 13 Dec 39 & conducted good work in the China area until detached to Singapore in June 40.
