In 1944 the 5th Division was serving under the 2nd Army in Western New Guinea.

1941(May 24)[24.5.16] Printed Japanese Military card to Toki-Gun, Gifo Prefecture from soldier Shoji Unit, Fujii Unit South China E.F uprated for airmail with 10s & 5s (5s damaged) tied Field Post Office 222 censored with oval chop of Iwasa in orange & with arrival datestamp of 30 May…….[FPO 220 – 222 were sent to Indo Chine & records state that FPO 222 opened at Phnom Penh but actual dates are not clear so this could be located elsewhere in Indo-Chine at this date, however despite damage to 5s this is a very scarce airmail item’
