1936 (Aug 10) Plain envelope by airmail to Norton Nr. Bingley in remarkablly good condition bearing Centenary of South Australia 2d + GV definitive 1/4 making 1/6 rate tied Toorak /Victoria cds & with boxed Damaged By Water hand stamp ………………. Airmails from Australia & points east of Egypt were loaded on board Imperial Airways “Scipio” at Alexandria on 22 August 1936. On descending at Mirabelle Bay, Crete it crashed into the sea, 2 passengers died but the remaining 5 plus 4 crew survived. 38 bags of mail were recovered and handed to the Greek P.O. at Athens from where it was forwarded to destination by various means
